I just can't believe how terribly the series fell down between its first outing and its last.Army of Two Video Games - Official EA Site EA Play FIFA 22 Madden NFL 22 Battlefield™ 2042 Apex Legends The Sims 4 It Takes Two I could rant for ages about how terribly put together TDC was compared to Army of Two, but what I did instead was play through the tutorial mission of AO2 to clear the appalling taste of TDC out of my mouth. I've just gotta wonder What happened? How could the dev team have taken Salem and Rios, two well-defined and likable (if a bit stereotypical) characters, replaced them with two utterly forgettable idiots, and sidelined them into terribly cliché plot devices? How could they have scrapped everything that made the original's gameplay the fun, quirky co-op experience it was in favour of a terrible cross between Call of Duty and Gears of War?
I legitimately could not tell the two cookie-cutter protagonists apart, the story was more clichéd than a 13-year-old's fanfic, and the fun gimmicks of partner control and co-op actions had been totally removed except for a few bland, contextual actions. The Devil's Cartel, however, was just woeful. I remember playing the first one and thinking it was a fun, gimmick-based game that had good ideas and executed them well. I snagged Army Of Two: The Devil's Cartel off Xbox Live's Gold service the other month, because it was free, and why not.
